Fête du Canada Day!

Canada Day is quickly approaching! Come and celebrate the holiday celebration (holiday in the mother-land – here not so much) with the vast population of Canadians in Stockholm (and other parts, who venture this way for the festivities) at Stockhom’s Hagaparken (located in Solna)! If you’re looking to get “oot and aboot” with others who may sound like you do, with that ‘accent’ that others from around the world swear we have, there is no better place to be on Sunday, June 30th from 12-4 p.m.!

You can find us in our usual spot in the large grassy area behind the Copper Tents at Hagaparken (just south of the Haga Parkmuseum if you want to get an exact location on Google Maps). Just like in the past, we’ll have a BBQ Unfortunately the fire ban in Stockholm has prevented us from barbecuing this year, but we’ll have a DIY sandwich and sides spread instead, as well as casually competitive activities… And members eat free!

You can renew your annual membership at the BBQ. The cost of a Single renewal is 200 kr, and our Family membership is a great deal at 300 kr. (Membership also gets you in to our annual Thanksgiving event in the Fall, and a 10% discount at a growing list of local spots.)

Non-members are also welcome, and can purchase a meal (a burger, a non-alcoholic drink, and sides) for 100 kr.

Payments can be made through Swish at the event as we are fitting in around here, and a completely cash-free organisation.

Please RSVP as soon as possible to info@canclub.org or on Facebook, so that we can gauge how much food is necessary to be brought in. Also, if you are bringing people who may not have Facebook and be part of the club’s page, please post a comment that you are bringing “+1s” (or however many you are bringing in addition to yourselves). We can’t have anyone going hungry!

In addition, we could use some volunteers to help out with preparation, with handling people’s payments to the club for memberships (as well as payments from non-members for one or more of our prime burgers), and other tasks that need to happen in order to make such an epic event. Should you want to volunteer to help out, you will gain some very valuable brownie-points within the club, and especially with me – please PM me personally.

See you all there! Last year, I estimate that we had a turn-out of about 200 beautiful folks in red and white. To the point that on-lookers were left wondering what was going on, and we even had some Americans crash the party (who DOESN’T want to party with Canadians, after-all?). Let’s see if we can’t out-do that this year!

My wife and I are travelling through Scandinavia in June/July. We are Canadians (from Vancouver). We will be in Stockholm for Canada Day and we’re wondering if there are any events planned, and if we could attend? Thanks!

Hi Derek, We’re planning a Canada Day picnic on Sunday, June 30th at Hagaparken in Stockholm near the copper tents. We’re ironing out the details to post soon, but it usually goes from 12-4pm and we barbecue and have games and so on. You can buy a meal for 100kr, including a burger, sides and a drink. You’re more than welcome to join us!

You can also check our facebook page to see if people have stuff planned for July 1st.
